Support Bike SD and have an excuse to break out the fancy attire? Yes, please.
Mark Your Calendars for Bike Prom on 11/5

BikeSD’s annual Gears & Cheers celebration returns Thursday, November 5, with this year’s theme: Bike Prom.

The fourth annual event brings together San Diego bike advocates, enthusiasts, community leaders, elected officials and friends to celebrate the region’s progress toward a more bikeable city and raise money to support BikeSD’s organizing and advocacy work. If somehow you’re not familiar with Bike SD, but you do know Streetsblog SD, we’ll have a presence at the party and look forward to continue to meet new readers.

The party runs from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Original 40 Brewing Company in North Park. Tickets include entry, food and an open bar, with free bike valet available for those who ride to the event.

General admission is $55 through October 23, increasing to $65 afterward. Individual sponsorships are also available for $100, while people who cannot attend can make a $30 “in-spirit” donation.

When: Thursday, November 5, 6:30–8:30 p.m.
Where: Original 40 Brewing Company, North Park
Tickets: Eventbrite

While Gears and Cheers is celebrating its fourth year, the idea of Bike Proms are much older. In 2013, I attended the Los Angeles County Bicycle Coalition’s first (only) bike prom, riding two wheels in my rarely worn wedding tux to the party. That event was based on the bike prom that had been held in Utah since 2007. While tuxes and ball gowns aren’t required, bike prom is a fun excuse to take a spin wearing clothes that are more than your regular attire.
